Handmade Artichoke Pedestal Bowls

Hand thrown in small batches along the coast of Tuscany.

Inspired by the artichokes that grow throughout the Tuscan countryside, this pedestal bowl is shaped by hand on the potter's wheel and finished with a hand applied majolica glaze. Each leaf is formed individually, then gathered into the bowl's sculptural silhouette and set on a raised pedestal base.

The glaze is applied in layers, pooling naturally into the folds and ridges of the form, so the color deepens in some places and lightens in others. Edges are left with a light, intentional distressing that gives the piece the feel of something found rather than made to order.

No two bowls are ever quite the same. Small variations in glaze, shape, and finish are part of the piece, not a flaw in it, the kind of detail that only comes from a maker's hand.
